4-6 Days exploring tigray
With over 120 rock-hewn churches, the Yeha temple, the ancient city of Axum, and Debre Damo monastery, Tigray is full of sights to see. Rent a minibus and explore; day trekking is possible, especially to see churches.
4-5 day trekking to rock-churches
Explore the rock-hewn churches and the landscape of Tigray by trekking up mountains and through pastoral valleys for a few days. Camp out underneath the stars and visit villages inaccessible by car.
Explore Tigray
Explore the semi-arid landscape of Tigray with over 120 ancient rock hewn churches. Some churches are carved into the top of mountains with sweeping landscape views while others are more accessible on flat land. Trekking tours through Tigray are also available to explore and immerse yourself in this beautiful land.

The churches of Lalibela
Come see the most famous rock church in Ethiopia: the Church of St. George; carved entirely out of one massive rock during the late 12th or early 13th century. The church is one of eleven rock-hewn monolithic churches in Lalibela and each are an incredible sight to see.
Afar: the land of salt and fire
The landscape of Afar is unlike anywhere else on earth. One of the lowest and hottest places on earth, it is a breathtaking and awesome experience. The home of famous up-right hominid Lucy, Afar boasts an incredible active volcano range Erte Ale including amazing lava lakes. The multicolor sulfur fields in Dallol provide a unique look into the natural beauties of Ethiopia, and the camel caravans carrying salt to distant marketplaces take you back in time.

The Semien Mountains
Come hike at 10,000 feet and see some of the most spectacular vistas in the world. The Semien Mountain range is home to animals only found in this ecosystem such as walia and bleeding heart monkeys (pictured right). You can trek for 1,2,3 days or even a week and never run out of things to see. Transportation via cars is also available for those who want a more relaxed visit.
Bahir Dar: The Blue Nile & Lake Tana
Situated on the shores of Lake Tana, Bahir Dar is a relaxing oasis for exploring wildlife and immersing yourself in Ethiopian culture. The largest lake in Ethiopia, Lake Tana is dotted by islands upon which different Ethiopian Orthodox Christian monasteries are located. Lake Tana is the mouth of the blue nile, and the Bile Nile Falls are located just a short trip out of town. The area is home to numerous bird species as well as hippopotamus and other large animals.
