logistical information

Each day is about 5-6 hours of trekking. The car will transport all luggage to each campsite as well as the chef and food to prepare meals. If you would rather carry your bags or keep them with you, donkeys can be rented to carry food and/or bags and travel with you.

4 days 

Day 1

Pick up in Makelle and drive to Wukro to see the Abraha We Atsbeha church. Trek from the church to the Abune Abraham church and spend the night on the mountain top.

Day 2

Hike down the mountain and across a valley to visit the Mariam Papasit church. Spend the night next to the church.

Day 3

Trek to Mariam Kokor and Daniel Korkor churches and spend the night in the village of Megab (option to camp or spend the night in a local hotel). 

day 4

Hike to Abune Yemata church and return to Makelle or journey to Axum in the afternoon. 

5 days

Day 1

Day 2

Hike down the mountain and across a valley to visit the Mariam Papaseit church. Spend the night next to the church.

Day 3

Trek to Mariam Kokor and Daniel Korkor churches and spend the night in the village of Megab (option to camp or spend the night in a local hotel). 

day 4

Hike to Abune Yemata church and hike halfway to the village of Koraro, spend the night midway.

day 5

Trek to Koraro and climb the mountain to see the Abune Gebre Mikael church. Return to Makelle by car or continue to Axum.
